Maria Montessori was an Italian Physician and educator. She graduated from the faculty of medicine at the university of Rome in 1896, to be one of the first female medical doctors to graduate from an Italian University. She devoted her entire life to develop a complete method of Education that supports the children's natural development. For more than a century, her scientific method has proven to be the most successful method of education and has served thousands of children across the world. She opened the very first Casa de Bambini in 1907, in San Lorenzo, Italy.

The Association Montessori Internationale was founded in 1929 by Dr. Maria Montessori to maintain the integrity of her life's work, and to ensure that it would be perpetuated after her death.

The objectives of the Association are to uphold, propagate and further the pedagogical principles and practice formulated by Dr. Maria Montessori for the full development of the human being.

AMI-accredited training centres throughout the world run courses leading to the AMI diploma. These courses are internationally recognised for their high standard and authenticity.
